Welcome to Global Action Community

The GAC is a group of Family Medicine resident physicians, other health care professionals, and varied people from our local community who are want to make an active difference in global and local public health.  We are based in South Bend, Indiana (U.S.A.) and operate in an unofficial affiliation with the International Health Tract program at Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

Our mission is to not only make healthcare available to those who may not otherwise be able to afford it, but also to facilitate others in learning how and where they can help others.  To this end, we not only go to underserved areas to serve, we have monthly meetings featuring speakers (some guests and some members) who work with people in need.  Our goal is to equip those who wish to help.  It is our intention that this website become a tool, enabling users to find places to serve, others to serve with, and supplies for serving.

We also gather needed materials for our members and other charitable organizations.  We collect supplies such as medicines, blankets, used cellphones (for the YWCA),  and clothing.  We also keep a directory of resources that can help users to find supplies they will need for serving others.

Many of our members have been, and are, active in international efforts to provide better health care to those in developing countries:  whether by providing services themselves on short term or long term trips, working in public health, raising funds or gathering supplies to contribute to ‘overseas’ projects.  Many of our members are also active in local community service projects, whether in health care or other areas.  It is our intention to continue to grow our community so that all that people from diverse situations will be able to help each other to be more effective in providing care for those who do not recieve adequate care.  We would love to have you at our next meeting, please check the calendar on this site for the date or send us an email for more information.
